🇬🇧 UK founders are urging Liz Truss to introduce a state startup competition
A group of UK startup founders have written a letter to new Prime Minister Liz Truss urging her to support a competition to drive the growth of UK entrepreneurs.
The letter was from a group of entrepreneurs, including Brent Hoberman, the founder of Lastminute, as well as executives from the crowdfunding platform Seedrs, which was recently acquired by investment firm Republic for £86.5m, and the food-sharing app Olio.
Other contributors to the letter include executives from Gymshark, Boohoo, and The Funding Circle.

The data transformation process is usually only known to those who work with it on a daily basis. This process usually consists of a combination of what is documented, what is in their minds, and what is found in different tools' metadata.
When we talk about the different layers of observability in data lineage, we are in a similar scenario. We are looking at the data from different perspectives and trying to make sense of it from those different vantage points. It seems that there is no one visualization that gives us a complete and understandable view. All the data lineage layers share a common theme.
The key to understanding how data pipelines perform is understanding how they use execution times, task duration, costs, and resource consumption. This data can be used to identify which models are the slowest or most resource-intensive.
Before data can be used effectively, it is important to understand where it comes from and how it will be used. As data and teams grow, it becomes increasingly difficult to keep track of everything and prevent one-off experiments from entering production or becoming obsolete. By using audit logs, it is possible to extract and overlay all the access and usage information over the lineage graph.
A failed model test can have ripple effects throughout the entire warehouse. If a model is blocked by upstream dependencies, stakeholders should be able to trace the blockers to better understand the impact without having to ask engineers or dive into technical tools like Airflow.
BUT If we don't model and catalog the data correctly, we are basically making it difficult to understand where it came from and how to use it effectively. Data lineage becomes a treasure map full of puzzles and dead ends.
